Who controls the data

Lisbon Carhire operates lisboncarhire.com from Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho 60, in the Alvalade parish of Lisbon, postcode 1700-031, Portugal, and is the controller of the data described here. Portugal is a member of the European Union, so the General Data Protection Regulation applies to this site directly, with the national law that gives it effect in Portugal alongside. What a comparison search leaves behind

Most of what a car comparison needs describes a trip, not a person. A search here processes the pickup point you select, which for Lisbon is usually Humberto Delgado Airport, a depot in Prior Velho or a city address, plus the dates and times, the driver age you enter and any filter you switch on, such as an automatic gearbox or a supplier that takes a debit card. None of that identifies you.

Anything personal is something you decide to hand over. Filling in the enquiry form, emailing a question or leaving a review tells us your name, the address you wrote from, a phone number if you included one, and whatever you said. The site has no accounts, so nothing accumulates between visits.

Information that stays with the supplier

The rental is concluded with the company that owns the car, so the sensitive material goes to them, not to us. Payment details go into the supplier's reservation window or onto the counter at handover, and at no point do they pass through our systems. Your driving licence and passport or identity card are checked and held by the supplier under its own privacy notice.

Logs, cookies and how we measure the site

The web server keeps a standard access log holding the requesting IP address, the browser's identification string, the page fetched and a timestamp. We also read aggregate statistics on which guides are read and where people leave, never on individuals. The legal grounds we rely on

Forwarding an enquiry to the supplier you chose is a step towards the contract you may sign with them, the pre-contractual ground in Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR. Keeping the site online, filtering automated abuse and studying how it performs rely on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f), balanced against yours each time. Optional cookies rely on consent, which you may withdraw at any time. Where Portuguese or European law obliges us to retain or hand over a record, that duty is the ground.

Your rights under the GDPR

Because the controller is established in Portugal, every right the Regulation grants is yours wherever you are reading from:

• Access: ask whether we hold personal data about you and obtain a copy of it
• Rectification: have inaccurate data corrected and incomplete data completed
• Erasure: have data deleted once there is no longer a lawful reason to keep it
• Restriction: ask us to pause processing while accuracy or grounds are in dispute
• Portability: receive the data you supplied in a common machine readable format
• Objection: refuse processing that we base on legitimate interests
• Withdrawal: revoke a consent you gave earlier, without affecting what went before
• Complaint: raise the matter with a supervisory authority as well as with us

Requests go to [email protected]; we reply within one month and charge nothing for a first request. The supervisory authority for Portugal is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados, the CNPD, based in Lisbon, and you may equally approach the authority in the EU country where you live or work.

Recipients and transfers

The rental supplier you selected receives your enquiry, since only it can allocate the car. LocalRent, the booking platform behind the listings and the reservation window, processes data on our instructions. The companies that host the site and handle our email store what passes through them. A public authority receives data only where the law compels it; nothing is sold and nothing is passed on for another company's marketing.

We keep processing inside the European Economic Area whenever a provider allows it. Where a provider sits outside it, the transfer rests on a European Commission adequacy decision or on the standard contractual clauses it has approved.

How long records are kept

An enquiry thread stays on file while it is open and for at most twenty four months after the last message. Access logs are anonymised within twelve months. A review remains published until you ask for its removal. Search parameters are not retained once the results page has been delivered.

Under eighteens

A category B licence in Portugal is issued at eighteen and most suppliers ask for more, so this site has no audience under that age and does not knowingly gather data from anyone below it. Should a parent or guardian report that a minor has used a form here, we remove the entry.

When this notice is revised

We update this notice whenever the site, a provider behind it or the law changes. The date under the heading identifies the version in force, and a substantive revision is flagged there for a period.
